Final Call - ImmInst Book
In November 2003, the non-for-profit organization Immortality Institute (www.imminst.org) issued a call for contributions to its forthcoming book on physical immortality. This collection of both basic and advanced essays on technical, scientific philosophical, and political aspects of physical immortality will be produced in collaboration with the international publisher LibrosEnRed and distributed via Amazon.com and other retailers. All proceeds will go towards funding the activities of the Institute.
The response to the call has been very satisfactory. The editorial team had the benefit and the burden of having to choose between a range of quality submissions addressing an almost full spectrum of the topic. The editors would like to thank all those who contributed and will shortly be in contact to discuss each essay individually.
However, since a number of authors have asked to be given a little more time and since there are some areas that have not yet been adequately addressed by current submissions, the Institute would like to announce a first and final extension of the cut-off date for submissions.
The final cut-off is February the 27th 2004.
At this stage, we are particularly interested in receiving the following:
- a short piece (max 2000 words) on caloric restriction from the perspective of the practitioner, that addresses the scientific background and the human side of such a diet
- a high quality piece addressing one or more of he ethical, social and political issues in life extension. While we are interested in personal analysis and opinion, it is imperative that essays gives a good account of the literature on the chosen topic. (max. 4000 words)
- a high quality essay on the spiritual aspects of the quest for immortality, either as an academic analysis or by giving an overview of a number of "esoteric" alternatives to scientific life extension. It is imperative that such an essay avoids obscure language and takes account both of the literature and of the need to convey information to readers unfamiliar with the area. (max 3000 words)
We are also still accepting submissions on any other topic relating to immortality (with a clear preference on physical immortality) but in light of the space available and the of the material that has been received, brevity and quality are advised.
Unsolicited essays must not have been submitted for publication elsewhere.
If you would like to discuss an article prior to submission feel free to contact the editors at bookeditor@imminst.org
